In Singapore Chinese Film Festival (SCFF) 2017, we are proud to be screening 45 films from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and Malaysia from 28 April to 7 May 2017. In addition to the growing diversity and scale of our programme, our fans and audience reach have grown. Indeed, last year we saw a record attendance of more than 5,500 with 22 sold out screenings! Our family of organising committee members, volunteers and partners has also been growing steadily. This theme on family is fortuitously reflected in many of our film selections for SCFF2017.
Our Opening Film this year is the Hong Kong production Mad World, about a son (Shawn Yue) who returns home to live with his estranged father (Eric Tsang) after being released from mental hospital. The film won Best New Director for Wong Chun and Best Supporting Actress for Elaine Jin at the 53rd Golden Horse Awards, Best Actor for Eric Tsang at the Malaysian Golden Global Awards.
We have selected the 1930's silent film classic Love and Duty as our Closing Film as a reference to last year's Closing Film Centre Stage and to pay tribute to screen goddess Ruan Lingyu's legacy in Chinese Cinema.
Head over to our website for the full programme listing. We hope that you will relish the films we have selected for this fifth edition of SCFF. To all of our fans, partners and supporters: thank you for being a part of the SCFF family and we hope that you will continue this journey with us for the next five years- and beyond!
