The Teaching & Learning Centre (TLC) is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position. TLC promotes excellence in teaching and learning through the design and implementation of innovative pedagogies; facilitation of faculty development and training, education research and provide academic support and develop life-long learning attributes in students.

We are seeking a Teaching and Learning academic staff to join our dynamic team of experts in this field. The applicant would have experience both as an academic, and in Teaching and Learning in higher education settings. More particularly, we would encourage academics with a special interest in the Learning Sciences and/or technology-enhanced learning to apply.

The incumbent will report to the Director of Teaching & Learning Centre and his/her main responsibilities will include the following:

1.  Faculty Development
  • Contributing to and playing an active role in promoting faculty development, including determining and developing appropriate support, resources, and training opportunities to facilitate faculty professional growth.
  • Designing and developing workshop materials for online and blended learning courses for faculty development.
  • Provide leadership in one or more areas of education specialization (technology-enhanced learning, assessment, learning analytics, curriculum design & development, workplace learning) and actively contribute to the University’s scholarship and research.
  • Design, deliver and evaluate professional development activites and resources that facilitatethe implementation of University polices related to learning and teacdhing.
     
2.  SoTL
  • Contributing to and playing an active role in promoting SoTL at the institutional level, including managing research grants, facilitating and supporting research projects.
  • Developing workshop materials and online resources for faculty, e.g. writing grant proposals and reports.
     

3.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Requirements:

  • Ph.D. from a reputable university.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement pedagogically-sound initiatives in the key areas of curriculum development, faculty development and training, and/or student development.
  • A record in teaching and learning research, and adult learning and e-learning pedagogies.
  • Experience in faculty professional development and university-level teaching.
  • Adept at the use of technology in curriculum design and pedagogy, and incorporating these in training sessions for faculty and students.
  • Sound analytical skills and expertise in advanced quantitative and / or qualitative data analysis techniques.

Singapore University of Social Sciences invites applications for full-time faculty positions in our Early Childhood Education programmes. Singapore University of Social Sciences  has been Singapore’s only local university that caters to working adults through offering part-time programmes. It has started to offer full-time undergraduate degree programmes to fresh school leavers since 2014 and will be offering a full-time Direct Honours Bachelor of Early Childhood Education with Minor programme in 2017. 

This 4-year programme will be the first locally awarded full-time early childhood education undergraduate degree in Singapore, a significant milestone in the Singapore early years teacher education landscape. The programme is anchored in socio-cultural perspectives, an inclusive approach, a strong belief in child agency, and children’s meaning making through multiple modalities. More importantly, the programme aims to bridge the nexus between theory and practice for pre-service and beginning early childhood teachers. It involves field-based research and collaborative work with teachers to develop the programme. The programme will be delivered in a blended combination of online and face-to-face experiences, with an emphasis on teacher learning through regular placements in local kindergartens, child care centres and other relevant settings. We are looking for dynamic and experienced educators to join our team.

Essential responsibilities:
  • Develop course materials and assessments
  • Teach courses in both face-to-face and online environments 
  • Recruit and advise students
  • Mentor students both on campus and in their placements in the partner schools
  • Help build a network of partner preschools for forging collaborative partnerships both locally and overseas, to bridge theory and practice
  • Establish a research agenda for active engagement in research to inform practice
  • Engage in national initiatives to improve the quality of early childhood education in Singapore
  • Serve on internal and external committees

Applicants should have an earned doctorate in early childhood education or a related field. ABDs are expected to have completed their doctoral studies when the appointment commences. In addition, we are looking for candidates who: 

  • Are keen to develop an innovative teacher education programme that addresses the theory-
    practice nexus and issues related to human agency, social equity and cultural diversity
  • Have successful experience teaching in teacher education and/or professional development programmes
  • Have successful working experience with children, birth through six years, and their families in diverse early childhood settings
  • Are fluent in English and able to model good communication skills
