There is a growing demand to understand the meaning within mountains of collected data. The bottleneck in understanding all this data is the scarcity of experts such as data scientists and statisticians, who can use this data to glean meaningful insights. Thanks to data visualisation tools that bridge this gap and make analysis more digestible, leaders are able to make better informed decisions.

How can data visualisation help empower good decision making? This course discusses the use of data visualisation in decision making. Topics include visualisation for various data types, how to create charts using Tableau, dashboard design principles, introduction to various types of dashboards, and how to create a dashboard using Tableau.

Objective

A. Knowledge and Understanding (Theory Component)

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the concepts of Business Performance Measurement, Strategic Business Management Performance Framework and Data Visualisation
  • Compare various stages of Data Visualisation process
  • Illustrate the dashboard design principles
  • Evaluate the appropriateness of Data Visualization techniques based on given
  • Discuss the benefits of Data Visualisation

B. Key Skills (Practical Component)

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Use appropriate Data Visualisation techniques based on given data
  • Develop Business Performance Dashboard using Data Visualisation software
  • Implement actions to create advanced dashboard navigation

About the Trainer

Dr Jess Tan is currently Senior Faculty and Lecturer in the School of Business at the Singapore University of Social Sciences. She has more than fifteen years of experience in data analysis and data mining. She had previously worked in the private and public sectors, leading and spearheading several analytics initiatives. Her main research and teaching interests are in applications of data mining and learning analytics.

Course Fee

Course Fee for $650

1 Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy: Singaporeans aged 40 and above may enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the course fees.
2 Enhanced Training Support for SMEs: SME-sponsored employees (Singaporean Citizens and PRs) aged 21 and above may enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the course fees. 

  • Participants are required to achieve at least 75% attendance and pass any prescribed examinations/assessments or submit any course/project work (if any) under the course requirement.
  • Participants are required to complete all surveys and feedbacks related to the course.
  • The course fees are reviewed annually and may be revised. The University reserves the right to adjust the course fees without prior notice.
