SUSS To Train More Industry-Ready Professionals With Applied And Experiential Programmes

Singapore, 28 September 2018 – The Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) has signed four Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with local and regional market leaders to help students acquire deeper knowledge and hands-on skills to respond nimbly to industry developments.

Covering a range of initiatives, SUSS formalised the partnership with Outward Bound Singapore which is part of the National Youth Council (NYC), Health Management International Limited (HMI), Deloitte Singapore Risk Advisory and Wilmar Business Indonesia Polytechnic (WBI) today. The ceremony was witnessed by Minister for Education Mr Ong Ye Kung.

The MOUs are in line with the university’s continued push in its unique brand of lifelong and experiential learning that seamlessly allows learners of all ages and background to gain a rich, inclusive and holistic education. The brand is solidified in the newly launched SUSS LifE (where LifE stands for Lifelong and Experiential learning). The collaborations include uplifting the capabilities of the healthcare sector to meet the needs of changing demographics, and will incorporate components such as boot camps, work attachments, overseas stints, and service learning activities. The collaborations are also aimed at meeting the evolving training needs of our workforce in a dynamic and disruptive environment.

Apart from the specific areas of collaboration outlined above, the partners intend to collaborate on activities that will benefit their communities and SUSS in the following: 

  • develop and deliver classroom and/or online courses and programmes;
  • identify joint research and development projects in areas of mutual interest;
  • exchange of research and teaching personnel and/or internship or attachment programmes; and
  • joint organisation and/or participation of academic and/or scientific activities such as conferences, seminars, symposia or lectures. 

The partners will recommend relevant subject matter experts from their organisations to provide internship placements, participate in regular curriculum reviews, and offer other opportunities to enhance students’ overall academic experience. The strategic collaboration will last three years.
