A visit to NTUC Active Aging Hub @Kampong Admiralty

NSHD’s Student Orientation on 14 July 2018 was conducted with a huge difference! After the introductory talks, NSHD students got into groups and enthusiastically sewed fidget cushions and filled up sensory bottles. Apart from fostering camaraderie among students from different programmes in NSHD, the joint activity made our School vision “Transforming Lives and Serving Society” come alive! At the outset at Orientation, students were infused with the ethos of our School and by assembling these items for elderly persons with dementia, they were indeed serving a pocket of society in meaningful ways.

This was followed on 17 August 2018, when 13 staff and 3 students from NSHD visited NTUC Active Aging Hub @Kampong Admiralty. It is probably easier to make a monetary donation or in kind by simply delivering the items made. Participants took the extra step to not only present these gifts personally to the elderly persons with dementia at the centre, but also put on a performance. Staff and students were singing heartily while strumming their ukuleles, with the elderly joining in shaking the sensory bottles with much zest and gusto. It was incredibly delightful to see the joyful smiles on their faces – it was veritably a fruitful day!
