Our Milestones

 

1992Singapore Institute of Management was invited by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to run the Open University Degree Programme, in collaboration with The Open University, United Kingdom.
2005Singapore Institute of Management received MOE mandate to start a private university for working adults – SIM University (UniSIM), the first and only university in Singapore dedicated to adult learners.
2006UniSIM commenced classes with first intake in January.
2008Government subsidy of up to 40% of tuition fees was introduced to eligible UniSIM undergraduate students.
2010UniSIM obtained registration with the Council for Private Education (CPE) for a six-year period.
2010UniSIM worked with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to offer the Master of Management (Urban Transportation) programme – the first of its kind in the region.
2011Government subsidy of tuition fees was increased up to 55%.
2012​Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced that UniSIM will participate in the Government’s plan to increase the number of publicly-funded full-time university places. UniSIM’s part-time students will also be eligible for government bursaries and loans, similar to their full-time counterparts at autonomous universities.​
2013Government announced that UniSIM had been selected to host Singapore's third law school.
2014UniSIM commenced classes for the first intake of full-time students into the initial undergraduate programmes in Accountancy, Finance and Marketing.
2015UniSIM celebrated its 10th anniversary.
2016UniSIM renewed registration with the Committee for Private Education (CPE) (formerly known as Council for Private Education) for a six-year period.​
2016UniSIM accepted the Government's proposal to become Singapore's sixth autonomous university.​
2017​UniSIM admitted its first intake of law students.
2017​UniSIM was renamed Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), as part of its re-structuring to be Singapore's sixth autonomous university under the ambit of MOE.
2019SUSS hosted the first Ministerial Forum with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong as guest of honour.
2020SUSS celebrated its 15th anniversary.
