The focus of this module is to provide participants a robust platform to examine, develop and refine one’s philosophy towards the teaching of art in schools. By way of a historical survey, this module introduces participants to the evolution of art education through a philosophical lens. Participants will encounter a diverse range of philosophical perspectives from the classical to the post-modernist paradigm and examine their implications to practise. Through a reflective and reflexive learning framework, participants will clarify and refine their philosophical stance towards art education and their role as art educators within the current socio-educational construct.

  • Demonstrate the ability to critique various philosophical characteristics underpinning of the East-West nexus towards art education.
  • Show the ability to contextualise and demonstrate the connection between art education theories and its socio-political implications through presentation and writing.
