Writing and art are inextricably linked. BAE311 examines some of the connections between the two practices. It begins by looking at an important type of art writing - art criticism. Here, it provides students with a historical overview, and introduces them to methodologies of the field. It then moves on to examine the role of writing in art, with an emphasis on the relation between words and images in the art of the late 19th-, 20th- and 21st-centuries. The module offers students the opportunity to study the diverse ways in which writing intersects with art.
