Creative Art Therapy and Education (BAE315)

Synopsis

BAE315 Creative Art Therapy and Education gives students an introduction into the nature and role of Art Therapy within in the Education sector. Looking specifically at the theoretical models that underpin Art Therapy practice, this module also investigates the history of Art Therapy and its relationship to mainstream art. Case practice within education such as students manifesting learning difficulties or exhibiting behavioural problems will be presented along with issues such as disability awareness and the role of therapeutic support in an education environment. The introductory course will give students an introductory experience of the use of Art Therapy for well-being within the educational context.

Learning Outcome

  • Examine the appropriate use of various forms of creative arts therapy, including art making, drama, storytelling and bodywork.
  • Illustrate with examples the different creative arts intervention/strategies.
  • Design a creative arts programme to promote social and emotional learning.
  • Propose creative arts intervention/strategies to enhance the well-being and social skills of their clients.
