The course aims to provide students with a general understanding of a wide range of application of engineering sciences to design, develop, adapt, test, evaluate, apply, and distribute technological solutions to problems confronted by individuals with disabilities. It also teaches students about supplements a person may need so as to restore to his fullest physical, psychological, social, vocational, and educational potential consistent with his physiological or anatomical impairment through the use of assistive devices and systems. Included in the course are many relevant fundamental details that link factors such as environmental limitations, physical, psychological, physiological or anatomical impairment of users to the engineering knowledge that students have learnt through their entire course and working experience. These fundamentals will equip students to understand how assistive engineering can complement and supplement health-challenged individuals to improve the quality of life.
