Aural Musicianship

Synopsis

Developing good aural skills is an important part of any music education and the ability to hearhow music works helps with all aspects of music-making and learning. BMU211 AuralMusicianship seeks to develop the practical (aural and analytical) skills relevant to the needs ofstudents through a combination of practical exercises, score study, andanalysis of examples. Through practice, students would be able to better acquire auraldiscrimination and fluent score-reading, and to gain a fluent and functional understanding ofmusical concepts in music.

Learning Outcome

Identify, sing or notate given diatonic intervals and triads.
Verify the key or mode of the given musical piece.
Demonstrate the ability to follow the rhythmic pulse of the given music.
Analyse textual handling of a given melody or harmony through sketches.
Discriminate aurally the melodic, rhythmic and harmonic structures through sketches.
Apply analytical and theoretical knowledge for questions delivered in an aural music test.
