Synopsis

BSE503 Education and Ethics in Outdoor Learning goes beyond the foundational pedagogical approaches and instructional strategies to include ethical considerations for the design and conduct of outdoor education programmes. The course will examine ethical and philosophical approaches that serve to guide the practice of an outdoor education professional. Students will also explore concepts of ethics and values as bases for developing responsible stewardship of the natural environment, and support holistic development of learners. Overall, the treatment of the materials will enable students to build on and integrate prior knowledge in this discipline of outdoor education and provide a more sophisticated view of the content to foster higher order cognitive processes.
