The course is designed to promote a confident grasp of Chinese language through strengthening the students' comprehension skills. Each of the study units consists of two parts: the basics of reading and text analysis. Students are exposed to a wide range of text genres with special attention to historical background and cultural issues. Focus is placed on textual and stylistic feature analysis and vocabulary buildup. Content is drawn from newspaper articles, modern and classical literary works which are written by authors from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, USA, France, Japan, Austria, and etc.
