Synopsis

This is a concise historical survey on the macro development of translation theories both in China and the West. By walking through history and comparing developments in China and the West, students will get to better understand the nature of translation and its role in world civilisation; the respective roles of the translator, the author and the reader; the shift in translation criteria and translation criticism.
