Synopsis

Teaching and learning focuses on the key influences that the pre-school teacher’s pedagogical and learning processes can have on the children and parents during the professional development of the teacher. This course examines how pre-school teachers should raise their self-awareness at the workplace within pre-school settings. The course also teaches how they could grow and develop into professionally competent as well as kind and caring teachers against the backdrop of a pluralistic pre-school education environment (such as in Singapore and other pluralistic societies). All these will enable students to affirm the meaning and significance of the identity of the teacher. The course will also explore the relationship between the roles of the pre-school teacher as an individual learner and as a teacher on the job. The course will also discuss the regulations and standards laid down by the Singapore Government concerning pre-school education, as well as the different expectations from parents towards teacher’s teaching and the children’s learning. Ultimately the course aims to increase the students’ understanding of professional pre-school teaching.

E-Learning: BLENDED - Learning is done MAINLY online using interactive study materials in Canvas. Students receive guidance and support from online instructors via discussion forums and emails. This is supplemented with SOME face-to-face sessions. If the course has an exam component, This will be administered on-campus.
