Outdoor learning is important as the natural environment provides opportunities for children to learn. Outdoor learning also provides children with a sense of wonder and discovery as they explore, create and construct meaning from their interactions with the environment. Outdoors provide the diversity in play spaces and experiences that develop not only healthy bodies and minds, but also creativity, physical, social and emotional skills, and the sense of adventure and independence. ECE507 Outdoor Learning for Children provides students with theoretical perspectives, historical and international contexts and approaches of outdoor learning for the early, preschool and primary years. Apart from the various contexts and approaches, it will also encompass Forest Schools and its relationship to outdoor learning. Educators with strong commitment to enhance children’s learning, will be encouraged to extend their view of education from beyond the classroom to the great outdoors.
