Synopsis

Quality programmes in early childhood build on the basic framework of developmentally appropriate practice with intentional teaching, challenging and interesting curriculum, and evidence-based effective practices. Assessing quality of programmes relates to criteria and benchmarks that contribute towards the desired outcomes of care and education of young children. This course examines quality in early childhood care and education which comprises frameworks that guide developmentally appropriate programmes for young children. Course participants will examine and compare evaluation tools and processes for quality assessment in early childhood care and education. They will also engage in reviewing and analyzing the SPARK Accreditation that is currently used in the local context. Comparison of other quality evaluation tools and processes will serve to inform practices and inspire educators and stakeholders with innovative ideas to plan quality programmes for the care and education of young children.
