Synopsis

This course examines the origins of Financial Technology (FinTech) and its role in transforming the financial services landscape since the global financial crisis in 2008. Students will learn how the financial services sector is being changed and transformed by new and evolving digital technologies. Topics included in the course are digital currencies, payment innovations, crowdfunding, block chain technologies, big data, robo-advisors, FinTech startups, and regulatory challenges. The course serves to prepare students to recognise the significance of the new technologies, the future of financial services and the role of stakeholders in the FinTech space. The course will also expose students to the use of a computational platform, Python, to develop/automate investment strategies and measure investment performance that are inherent in a robo-advisor business.
