Kursus ini membincangkan konsep sastera dan kesusasteraan, hubungan sastera dan manusia, sejarah dan faktor kewujudan dan perkembangan kesusasteraan Melayu tradisional dan moden, konsep tradisional dan moden dalam kesusasteraan Melayu; peranan institusi kesusasteraan Melayu, corak pewujudan kesusasteraan Melayu: naratif dan non naratif, lisan dan tulisan, pengarang dan kepengarangan kesusasteraan Melayu tradisional dan moden.
