Malay Phonetics and Phonology (MLL301)

Synopsis

This course will focus on introduction of Malay phonetics in aspects of vowel and consonant system, articulatory phonetics and feature system. In terms of phonology, this course will focus on the generative phonology i.e. looking at the phonological theory and phonological process in the Malay language. Some of the applied theories discussed will include phonological rules and auto-segmental theory. Based on the mentioned theories, the phonological process in Malay and Malay dialects will be analyzed.
