PSS203 Citizenship, Identity and Cultural Diversity examines the construction and maintenance of identity and cultural differences in the context of Singapore and Southeast Asia. Students will explore the connection between identity, culture, diversity, representation and racism, and learn how these concepts affect harmony and security. This course discusses the impact of global mobility, the opportunities and security challenges. The differing opinions of migrants and new citizens, the processes placed in assimilating them with the host community, the challenges related to different ethnic, cultural, language, religious groups will be highlighted as well. This course allows students to form their opinion on concepts such as global citizenship, social inclusion and governance. They will also be able to explore strategies and policies intended to develop unity and maintenance of cultural diversity.
