Food Security, Ethics and Law

Food Security, Ethics and Law (PSS335)

Synopsis

PSS335 Food Security, Ethics and Law provides an introduction to aspects of governance relating to food security, and guides students to think critically about the challenges in food production and consumption from an ethical and legal perspective. Apart from examining the ecology of food systems, students will also analyse food scarcity, and explore ways to ensure accessible, safe food for all. By incorporating case studies in this course, students will be able to identify the application of policies and laws in managing and overcoming issues relating to food sustainability. Students will discuss the major concerns about diet and human health, so that they will be able to explain legal and ethical issues to those who work within the food chain. Finally, this course allows students to review the application of ethics and law in the process of reimagining the future of food and agriculture.
