Challenging Sustainability

Challenging Sustainability (SCO107)

Synopsis

SCO107 examines sustainability challenges faced by societies that are brought on by climate change. It will first introduce the three pillars of sustainability (social, economic, environment) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), as well as discuss the strategies for cooperation and coordination between private and public sectors at the global and regional levels. Next, it will outline sustainability challenges faced by Asia and examine how some societies in Asia and ASEAN have responded – through national strategies and initiatives by civil societies, while paying attention to the key factors (cultural, social, political, and economic) that influenced how these societies challenge sustainability agenda and issues. Finally, it will discuss in depth what sustainable development for Singapore entails (i.e. Singapore Green Plan 2030) and strategies adopted by civil societies in order to closely examine how private individuals should assess these initiatives and move to act.
