Introduction to Tamil Language (TLL101)


Tamil is one of the major literary South Dravidian languages spoken in Tamil Nadu andDiaspora. It has a very wide range and variety of heritage and literary tradition of the Tamilsstart from time immemorial. It is a diglossic language in which two varieties exists: the literaryvariety and the spoken variety. The course introduces the various features of Tamil as aClassical Language. It elaborates on the basic elements of Tamil language and how it hasevolved over the years as spoken and written language. It also covers Tamil usage in print,audio and visual media, and offers a bird’s view on linguistics and translation
