TLL108 is devoted to folksongs, which are one component of Tamil literature which has beenmaintained orally since time immemorial. They are composed, improved, modified and passedon from one generation to another. Folk Literature comprises of folktales, folksongs, folkballads, proverbs, and riddles. Tamil literature is very rich in various tales and folk songs. Manyof the folk songs depict various local traditions and cultures, beliefs, and different art formssuch as songs, music and dance. Folk literature is comprised of different varieties such asnursery rhymes, lullabies, labour songs, dance songs, love songs, lamentation songs, nomadicsongs, marriage songs, and celebration songs. There is a growing interest in folk songs amongthe youths and they are being promoted in Tamil cinemas.
