TLL108 is devoted to folksongs, which are one component of Tamil literature which has been maintained orally since time immemorial. They are composed, improved, modified and passed on from one generation to another. Folk Literature comprises of folktales, folksongs, folk ballads, proverbs, and riddles. Tamil literature is very rich in various tales and folk songs. Many of the folk songs depict various local traditions and cultures, beliefs, and different art forms such as songs, music and dance. Folk literature is comprised of different varieties such as nursery rhymes, lullabies, labour songs, dance songs, love songs, lamentation songs, nomadic songs, marriage songs, and celebration songs. There is a growing interest in folk songs among the youths and they are being promoted in Tamil cinemas.
