Tamil Morphophonemics

Tamil Morphophonemics (TLL110)

Synopsis

TLL110 covers the basic grammar and morphophonemic rules pertaining to the morphemic structure of Tamil. These rules are elucidated with examples and instances drawn from contemporary Tamil. Although aphorisms from Tamil grammatical treatises like Tolkaapiam and Nanool are cited in this course, greater emphasis is given to functional grammar. Students will learn about the combination of vowel finals, general combinations, special combinations of vowels, mutation, hard consonants before vowel, words with a, á, i, u as finals, the combination of consonant finals and combinations of case-findings.
