This course introduces three essential competencies for a high performing charity organisation – governance & fundraising, non-profit leadership and volunteer management. Presented in three interdependent course modules, participants will be introduced to the requirements of charity organisations in Singapore, and acquire the knowledge and tools to develop strategies that are aligned with organisation vision and mission to effectively drive positive social change.
Management in the charities sector including deputy director, executive director, C-suite executives as well as volunteers, where applicable.

A. Knowledge and Understanding (Theory Component)
At the end of this course, participants should be able to:
- Learn what the current minimum expected standards and regulations are
- Compare and analyse risks in different fundraising tools and methodologies
- Identify opportunities for fundraising and philanthropy
- Explain how fundraising strategies may be aligned with needs, motivations and strategies of the organisation
- Demonstrate understanding of different types of leadership in social service contexts
- Examine and discuss various leadership challenges

Associate Professor Joanne Tay Siok Wan
Associate Professor, School of Business, SUSS

Associate Professor Tay joined the School of Business at SUSS in May 2016. Currently, her teaching activities focus on Assurance and Attestation, but she has also taught Financial Reporting and Governance and Risk Management at undergraduate and MBA levels at NTU and SMU. Her teaching methods have long included active learning strategies such as case analyses, small group discussion, presentations and role plays.
Associate Professor Tay previously worked in the London office of one of the Big 4 accounting firms. Her audit experience included a range of manufacturing and trading firms, and a variety of broking firms, banks and insurance companies. She also worked on several investigations and a listing on the London Stock Exchange. She has served the profession in Singapore on the Inquiry and Auditor Independence Committees of the Public Accountants’ Board, and on the ISCA Auditing and Assurance Standards Committee.
Associate Professor Teng Su Ching

Associate Professor Teng joined the SUSS in 2008. In 2011, she set up SUSS’s Continuing Education and Training Centre which later became the Centre for Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE). Prior to her current appointment as Director of CCPE at SUSS, she had assumed teaching and administrative responsibilities at the National University of Singapore from 1989 to 2005 where she assumed positions including Vice-Dean (Special Project and Outreach) at Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and Assistant/Deputy Director of Master in Public Policy programme.
Associate Professor Teng is an active volunteer and community activist. She served on the Board of the Singapore Children’s Society.She is President of the Loving Heart Multi-Service Centre. The Centre provides social services to families, elderly residents and needy persons living in the South West District in Singapore. She was appointed Justice of the Peace in 2006. In recognition of her service, she was awarded the Public Service Star or Bintang Bakti Masyarakat (BBM) in 2017.
Dr Caroline Lim
Senior Lecturer, School of Business, SUSS

Dr Lim joined the SUSS in 2018 as a senior lecturer of the marketing programme in the School of Business. She teaches and coordinates the course Business-to-Business Marketing Management. Her research interest is in marketing for social impact. In 2018 she published a book on “Building Enabled Communities in Singapore” commissioned by the Agency for Integrated Care Singapore.
Dr Lim volunteers in the community. She serves on the Council of HCA Hospice Care as the Chair of Corporate and Community Relations. She is also a member of the Advisory Committee of Regent Secondary School.
Mr Sng Hock Lin

Mr Sng is the Deputy Chief of ActiveSG, Sport Singapore responsible for engaging our community to lead an active lifestyle and live better through Sport. He has proven a track record in creating value for organisations, having undertaken responsibilities in strategic planning and organisational change management. His operating philosophy is to bring out the best in people through engagement, training and development.
He was Director of Logistics and Finance for the Inaugural Singapore Youth Olympics Games, Opening and Closing Ceremonies in 2010 involving 3,600 international athletes, about 20,000 participants and volunteers. In 2016, he interned at the Pacific Senior Activity Centre to design programmes, conducted visioning and teambuilding workshops for the leadership team. More recently, he was the independent Director of The Good Life Cooperative. He also volunteered to design the curriculum for the caregiver-centric training of the Silver Caregiver Cooperative.
Mr Sng is a lifelong learner and authentic leader who derives meaning and purpose from leading teams to achieve extraordinary outcomes.
Dr Daniel Seah

Dr Seah joined SUSS in 2017. He teaches tort and evidence law at the School of Law. Daniel won the "Excellent Paper" prize, at the International Conference for Open and Innovative Education in Hong Kong (2018), for his method on using technology to teach adult learners. He has been invited by universities to share the best practices of innovative teaching approaches for adult education and lifelong learning.
Daniel is an independent director of the TENG Ensemble. He is also a member of the HCA Hospice's Governance Committee. In both capacities, Daniel advises on fundraising, contractual drafting and negotiations, and governance matters concerning charities and Institutions of a Public Character (IPC).

1 Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy: Singaporeans aged 40 and above may enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the course fees.
