It gives me great joy to celebrate your successful completion of the Master of Gerontology (and Graduate Diploma) and the Master of Counselling Programmes!

It was indeed a privilege to be your instructor, to share my knowledge and experiences with you in your journey of equipping yourself to serve seniors and the community more effectively. Your zest for learning, keen interest in sharpening your competencies, deep desire to develop services/programmes for the benefit of seniors and their families, have been a real encouragement to me.

Importantly, it was heartening to witness your unwavering support for one another and the collaborative spirit which you had exuded throughout the course of your studies at SUSS. I have no doubt that you will continue to do so long after your graduation. Such wonderful camaraderie will position you well as you embark on the next lap. As the African wisdom puts it, "If you wish to go fast, go alone; if you wish to go far, go with others."

As you take on various roles to serve seniors and the community, the road ahead will no doubt be fraught with challenges and difficulties. Do not be surprised or discouraged that there will be occasions when you feel like giving up. In such times, I urge you to press on, PERSEVERE and not give up. Remember, to make a significant and enduring impact, this race is a MARATHON, not a sprint.

My earnest hope is that you will go forth to make a difference to the lives of seniors, and be a blessing to our community, our nation, and the region!
