Voices of our Graduands

Andrew Tan

Bachelor of Human Resource Management

To my wife Audre Yim, thank you for your unwavering support & unconditional love. It is through you that I have the strength to complete my Bachelor of HRM over the last 7 years.

From getting married in 2014, to having our child in 2016 and to finally graduating in 2021, you have been there for me. This achievement is as much yours, as it is mine.

To the ones who consistently enlighten me (Nemo, Marifu, Kor, Josheng and Guangwen), I made it!!

To my parents, yay your son is finally a degree holder!

To those who are still on this part-time degree path & are having second thoughts. Don't Give Up.

Aveline Soh Yu

Bachelor of Early Childhood Education

Aveline Soh YuIt is truly a deliberating feeling. The journey was not easy, as I had to manage both work and part time studies. At first, I thought I wouldn't be able to make it, but the group of friends made it possible. I miss pre-covid times, as I love meeting together for dinner @ SIM foodcourt and queuing to buy drinks at the lecture hall. Definitely, I am thankful for a group of passionate lecturers in SUSS that respond to our emails and make online classes fun! Challenging times ahead, but "Faith and hope work hand in hand, however, while hope focuses on the future, faith focuses on the now." – David Odunaiya

Chua Qian Wen

Bachelor of Early Childhood Education

Chua Qian WenWarmest Congratulations to all graduates of Year 2021 on this well-deserved success!

I am thankful to be able to complete my degree in this eventful year. This programme has been painfully long but rewarding. COVID-19 has placed us in many difficult situations, but I am proud that we pulled through. Special thanks to Prof. Dorra Chen, where she took the time and effort to ensure that I am guided and supported during my education here. My passion for art education has also been ignited by Mr. Chua Aik Boon and Ms. Bridget Tracy Tan where lessons were conducted in a very interesting and enriching manner. Not forgetting my friends that I made here, making group works and studying awesome.

I truly appreciate SUSS for honouring the students and providing us a place to foster our intelligence and knowledge. The road is daunting but SUSS connected the dots of life for me. The journey has not ended yet. Stay hungry for knowledge and never stop learning!

Ivory Loy Wai San

Bachelor of Counselling

Ivory LoyGraduating gives a mixed feeling of great satifaction and emptiness. Uni days had been both fun and challenging. Choosing a course which was different from my profession made me completely had no idea what Counselling entails, was totally lost in the world of counselling theories and struggled in juggling between work, study and family initially. Nonetheless, I'm eternally grateful to have supportive pepople around me. First to thank is my HOP, Dr Soong who selected me for the programme and took time to talk to me when I was about to give up. Never forget my Study Buddy Janice whom we had spent lots of time discussing TMA and exam questions; always there to motivate me to spur on. My Fantastic Four Buddies Gary & Jess, thanks to them who had taught this "Kan Chiong" Spider to slow down and have fun; we took part in SUSS activities together like Orientation. Many thanks to my 10CU lecturers, Laurence, Jean Tan and Desmurn who had imparted me with great skills and knowledge in counselling; additionally, leaving positive impact in my aspiration to be a counsellor. Lastly, I'll used what I had learned to contribute to places that need us, The Counsellors!

Kara Lee-Wong Hui

Bachelor of Counselling

Kara Lee-Wong HuiI am grateful for all the learning as this is a life-changing chapter of my life. The learning journey has not been easy, but has been very fruitful. I extend my deepest appreciation to my counsellor, Jean Tay, for all her time, and to my lecturer, Laurence Ho, who inspired me tremendously through his passion when teaching. I thank everyone who have crossed path with me in this journey, it has been my pleasure and honour to meet these helpful people from different ages and walks of life. I love that we can discuss and bounce off ideas with each other outside school, or simply enjoying time together through similar interests/hobbies, despite our differences and at different life stages. I want to thank my husband for his support, and my 2 dogs who were always with me when I indulged in my assignments, readings and revisions. I plan to continue learning to strengthen my knowledge. I hope to be able to live out my dreams, help others find and live out their dreams and life purpose. Let's all do our part in contributing to the society in all the big and small ways we can. All the best, everyone!

Lim Yu Ying Vera

Bachelor of Early Childhood

Vera Lim Yu YingI survived four years of part time study and full-time work at as an Early Childhood educator! During my time in SUSS, I went through a few life-changing experiences! I got engaged, did my pre-wedding shoot in New Zealand while rushing my ECA in a different time zone, got married, pregnant and gave birth. I was due to give birth any time during my last examination in November 2020. I went through contractions during my first paper and delivered 1 hour before my last paper. I almost couldn't make it and wanted to retake the examinations in November 2021. I was encouraged by many people - my husband, gynaecologist, nurses and my first friend in University (Lee Wan Er who is also graduating today) and I managed to complete my TOA! During my last semester in SUSS, I could care for my baby girl and attend online classes as well which I am thankful for. I am also glad that I made friends and met nice lecturers in SUSS. I enjoyed attending classes in SUSS as the diversity in the classroom allows us to share our experiences in the early childhood industry. I would like to thank my husband, family and friends I made in SUSS, lecturers, my colleagues, principal and boss for being supportive of my learning journey in SUSS.

Nur Aisha Binte Ramat

Bachelor of Art Education

Mark Twain said, "The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why."

I am an art educator of 12 years and getting a degree in Art Education with Management. It has been a great learning experience.

I am thankful for the opportunity to showcase my artworks in the "Art + Design Showcase @ SUSS", won 1st Prize in an internal art competition, and presented my painting to President Halimah Yacob during the S R Nathan School of Human Development, renaming ceremony.

Juggling work, study, and life are difficult, but "Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else." James M. Barrie. Therefore, I persevered.

And of course "No Man Is an Island". I would like to thank all my lecturers and tutors who shared their knowledge with wisdom and ample support.

To Dr. Ivy Chia, thank you for your support and encouragement during my initial years in SUSS. I will never forget you.

To the friends whom I met along the way and to those I shared GBAs with. You guys are my direct support line. Thank you so much!

Congratulations to all graduands!

To my fellow graduates, congratulations!!

Let's change the world!

Sam Fam Rong Hua

Bachelor of Sports and Physical Education

Sam Fam Rong HuaFour years in the making. It was an incredible journey. Had to juggle between school, work and family. Becoming a first-time dad when I was in year two, the struggles and memories are indelible and they will forever be etched on my heart. The people in the attached photo pretty much sum up my journey in SUSS. Without them, this journey would never be the same. Our paths have crossed for a reason and for that I am thankful.

Selina Khoo

Master of Non-Profit Management

It's a wonderful achievement to cross the finishing line to graduation. Undertaking the Masters in Non-Profit Management no doubt has given me invaluable insights into the non-profit sector. It has also transformed my perspectives. I find myself being indignant about the injustices in Singapore, wanting to do more for the underprivilege or to help families who face challenges meandering through the red tape of policies, and being very conscious of the importance of sustainability in all that we do.

I think the greatest challenge was time management because it was very stretched to cover full time work responsibilities, course work and assignments, care for 2 elderly parents, and my own family. The stress and demands were exacting and it's indeed a miracle to be able to graduate. "Thank you'' is just not sufficient to convey my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to my husband, my best friend, and my sister for all their encouragement, support, love, and care. If not for their unstinting support, I would not have achieved success. I would also like to thank my thesis supervisor, Dr Carol Mak, as well as Adrian and Greg from SG Assist, who gave me a lot of support. Working with them showed me the great need that we face in Singapore to cultivate a gracious and compassionate society and to revive our lost ‘kampong spirit' culture.

Tan Swee Leng

Master of Counselling

It feels surreal to graduate, can't believe it has been 2.5 years in the blink of an eye! Spending whole Saturdays (and sundays even) together was unbelievable; i'll always remember how anxious we were that we would be called on to present, the small kettle that kept us warm, the teachers who cared for us while teaching us all they knew, and the group struggles of handing in assignments! Thank you classmates for making learning safe and not competitive, and my understanding family for my Saturday-absence! Y'all, we made it!

Tang Yuling

Bachelor of Early Childhood

Valen Tan

Bachelor of Social Work

Valen TanEducation enables dreams and opens up new opportunities. Through SUSS, I get to fulfil my childhood aspiration of being a Probation Officer.

Education enables friendship. Through SUSS, I met supportive peers and mentors who encouraged and gave me strength.

I am thankful that SUSS has a flexible curriculum that enables me to continue the commitments I have as a mother of three, a wife, a daughter and as a founder.

I am also thankful that SUSS has given me the support to start a Social Enterprise, Social Gifting, which enable SUSS students to come together to do good for the community.

Thank you, SUSS, and everyone who has been part of this journey! We made it!

Eve Fiona Enrica Balbon Ramos

BSc Business Analytics

Eve Fiona Enrica Balbon RamosIt's been quite a journey and I am filled with so much joy to finally graduate. It hasn't been easy juggling my time and energy between my commitments as a part-time student, a full-time software engineer, a sister, a daughter and a friend. When I reached the valleys of my journey, I was met with overwhelming emotions and fatigue. However, with every valley there was peak and there I found out how to persevere and nurture my strengths. I wouldn't have been able to do this alone. I would like to take this chance to thank my parents, siblings and friends for all their love and support. Thank you also to the lecturers of SUSS, who did their best to make night classes more interactive. Most of all, I thank God for His guidance and strength. It is indeed true that nothing is impossible through Him who gives me strength.

Farhana Binte Mostafah

BSc Business Analytics

It has been an experience for me to complete my part-time studies all these years. With the support of my family, friends, colleagues and bosses, I managed to persevere and achieve this.

Lim Xinying Felica

BSc Business

SBIZ-Lim-Xinying-FeliciaCongratulations to all fellow graduands of Class 2021 in achieving this milestone in life! It hasn't been easy but we have made it through! I would like to take this opportunity to thank all lecturers and fellow classmates for making my learning journey exciting and I was able to gain so much invaluable experience for the past few years. Last but not least, my family and husband for all the unequivocal support and love they have showered on me. I would not have made it so far without them! Thank you everyone and all the best!

Tan Soon Seng

BSc Business

Tan Soon SengI am elated to be graduated in achieving this milestone in my life. Juggling with full-time work and part-time studies was not an easy feat. Coming from an ITE and Poly background, this journey has taught me to be resilient and adaptable in different situations.

Importantly, do not let fear stop you from moving forward in your education and career journey. As I believe this would bring you to a better destination where I would belong at the end. Becoming of student for life has enriched my learning journey in SUSS, and I could apply the lesson that I learned to work and personal life.

I would like to thank my Mum, Sister, Yazid, Eryan, fellow professors, lecturers', groupmates, and friends for their support in believing in me and making the lesson engaging. Moreover, my Sister who was also a graduate from SUSS has been giving encouraging words and support to believe in myself when I faced challenges in both my work and studies. Ultimately, I will cherish the moments in SUSS and I planned to contribute to society by helping juniors through teaching and volunteering.

Notably, Yazid has been in the SUSS journey with me giving steadfast support when I encountered roadblocks in some module topics.

Yong Foo Loy, Ken

BSc Business

Yong Foo Loy, KenI'd like to express my gratitude to my family for their unwavering support over the past 3.5 years, especially to my wife, mother-in-law, and two wonderful children for their support and encouragement. I am grateful to have met excellent teachers and friends who have provided me with companionship and direction. Without any of them, I would not have been able to do it! I am grateful and strive to provide a good example for my children as they embark on their educational adventure.

I am currently employed as a production senior manager in a manufacturing company. Graduated with a bachelor's degree in business is a significant accomplishment for me; nonetheless, I will continue to develop professionally, as learning is a lifelong process. I'd like to use this occasion to encourage all students not to give up along the path and to strive for greater success via determination and a goal-oriented attitude. It is possible for everyone to succeed.

Fabian Chua Hong Lun

BSc Psychology

Fabian Chua Hong Lun4 and half years ago when I embarked on this learning journey in SUSS as a part-timer, it was a goal set basically to demonstrate to my kids that disregard of how old we are, we can take small steps to reach our goal. There were sacrifices for our family and ourselves and with their motivation and accommodation despite lesser time spent with them over multiple weekends, I would like to show my appreciation and gratitude towards them. Additionally, with SUSS providing the platform for me to pursue my interest, I deeply appreciate and would like to thank the institution and the instructors for the support and patient extended to me .

Mehraj Begum

BA Tamil Language and Literature

Mehraj BegumThis picture was taken on the day when I received the news that I will graduating this year. It was my celebratory dinner for my long-awaited graduation. It has been a long 6 years where I am ever grateful for the greatest pillars of my life, my parents, my bundle of joys Zaheer and Haris who travelled this tough journey with me. I am grateful for you all. I had amazing bosses who always cheered me on whenever I withered. I had best friends who were my cheer leaders and you know who you are. I love you all and I wouldn't have accomplished this milestone without you all. As I look back, SUSS has given me various learning pitstops and I am thankful for all the friends I have made in class. As an educator, I am always on a constant run to widen my horizon of knowledge and am looking forward to pursuing further studies soon and can't wait it!

Mohamed Haiqel Bin Mohamed Darwis

BA Sociology

Mohamed Haiqel Bin Mohamed DarwisThis is one of my greatest life achievements thus far. I started this journey in 2012 when I just started working full time. However, in 2013, I met with an accident and broke my leg, and it affected my work and studies. I failed miserably and took time off from school to recover myself. That was when I met my wife. She was very supportive of me continuing my studies and became my pillar of support. I restarted the course in 2015 and soon after I got engaged. In 2016, I got married and in 2017 my wife gave birth to our beautiful daughter. The challenge gets harder each year as I must balance working full-time, studying part-time and managing my small family.

I would like to give special thanks to my supportive wife, both my parents and my in-laws for always being there to help me in any way they could such as taking care of my wife and daughter when I need to go for night classes or busy with my assignments. I would not have been able to go through without the supportive environment in SUSS as well as at home. My hope is to inspire others especially my daughter, to belief that if you persevere and put your heart and mind to it, nothing is impossible. It may have taken me 6 years to complete my studies, but I did it with all the challenges that was put through me. The pain and struggles to gain knowledge cannot be compared to the lifetime benefits that will stay within us.

Thank you SUSS for being a big part of my life journey, not only in providing me with the education that I am passionate about, but also allowing me to be an inspiration to my daughter and be the living example to her that education is for life.

It has been a long journey for me but thanks to my strong support system, I managed to graduate. It wasn’t easy juggling my studies with two pregnancies on tow but really glad I pulled through. Thank you my Husband, Mother, Sister & my two daughters for going through this journey with me. To a better future ahead!

Patrick Liu Jia Liang

Patrick Liu Jia LiangBA Chinese Language and Literature

To teachers, graduates and everyone,

Congratulations to all graduates of 2021. Eventually, we succeed through years of lectures, assignments and examinations.

Although “graduating” explained as successfully complete, but it doesn’t mean we stop learning. A Chinese idiom always reminded us that knowledge has no limit, Chinese character as “学无止境” and Chinese phonetic as “xue wu zhi jing”. We must live and learn from each other regardless of any age group.

I’m thankful for the chance to learn from SUSS teachers and schoolmates through years of learning journey. There was a “Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Appreciation” course that gave most meaningful life to me, especially human’s personality. A Tang dynasty Chinese calligrapher named Liu Gong Quan said that to achieve a straightness stroke neatly and beautifully without any curve or bend, it is equivalent to your upright character, Chinese original as “心正则笔直”, phonetic as “xin zheng ze bi zhi”.

This period of time is to pursue a better version of myself and not just paper qualification. I would like to express gratitude to my family, colleagues, HOPs, lecturers and schoolmates by guiding and supporting me throughout my schooling in SUSS.

My aspiration for the future is to contribute to society by inspiring individuals to keep exploring each prospective.

Wish everyone good health and all the best for your future endeavours.

Tang Kuan Wai, Shannon

BSc Pyschology

Tang Kuan Wai, ShannonIt is unbelievable that I could complete my part-time Degree in Psychology in 4 years having juggling work and my 3 kids. Remembering the first step at the entrance of SUSS to start my first lesson, I told myself to be perseverant and achieve a goal set at age of 40. Continuous learning and determination and family/school support had given me strength in facing all challenges. A feeling of emptiness that I do not have to finish my day with assignments and reading make me decided to continue to support SUSS as a student ambassador and took on another course of study recently.

The sense of fulfillment and the learned knowledge and skills had helped me grow to be a better person as a mother and applied to my work. Thanks to my family, friends, and teachers for supporting me and lastly to fellow graduands,” You can do it!”

Vanessa Ann-Mary Naidu

Bachelor of Communication

Vanessa Ann-Mary NaiduMy journey at SUSS was challenging yet enriching. Juggling work and study is demanding and can take a toll on an individual. There were days when I felt like I was not going to make it to the end.

Therefore, to successfully complete and graduate from SUSS is such a gratifying and proud accomplishment for me!

Khoo Shi Jie

BSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Khoo Shi JieFelt extremely relieved! But at the same time miss the time going for lesson every time during the night after my work. It is kind of tough and tiring too when I have managed work and study at the same time. With my friends and colleagues, it helps a lot along the way which gives me the drive to work towards my final milestones. To my fellow graduands you guys have done it even with these tough times, Yes! We are graduating!!! Would like to firstly thank my wife, Rolinda for constantly supporting me and understanding during my time in studies as well as my family morale support. My hope for the future will be having to be able to return to school for the rest to resume back the cohesive study atmosphere once again! #StarsbuckSUSS #SUSSRocks

Lim Kai Yan (Sherlene)

BSc Digital Media

Lim Kai YanHow do I feel about graduating? Fantastic! I've always believed in the lifelong learning approach that of SUSS. It has been nothing short of but a challenging and rewarding journey at SUSS. The school provides wholesome support for the students and implements industry-related workshops and programmes that students can join to enhance their learning journey at SUSS. I'm sure most adult learners will agree with me that balancing part-time studies with full-time work and some of us having family commitments is an energy-intensive journey. Now that we're at the end of it, I'd say this is not the end but let's celebrate the start of a new beginning. Most of us will be hopping on to new jobs and responsibilities. It may be challenging initially, but I'd say we're off to a great start! Thank you to all my coursemates, lecturers, student support and everyone else who have helped me during my studies. Thank you for being a supportive bunch. Here wishing all graduates the best of luck in their future endeavours. Well done for not giving up, and congratulations to all graduates of Class 2021! Yes, we made it! (:

Nu Hui Yuen

Bachelor of Building and Project Management

Feeling so happy and extremely proud of myself to reach this milestone of my academic pursue. It was extremely challenging during the past 3 years. Overseas deployment, juggling between work and family, its never easy. And then COVID-19 came along which makes it even tougher.

One significant moment that remains vivid in my memory is during the exam period in Nov 2019. My dad passed away and I have to revise during the funeral wake and leave midway for exam. I am extremely grateful that my family gave me the strength and support to tide me thru the tough times.

I would like to thank my family which I just can't thank enough and also my peers that had fought along me thru numerous assignments and revisions. Congrats to all graduates! You deserve this moment!

Nurul Ateeqah Binte Suhadi

BSc Human Factors in Safety

Nurul Ateeqah Binte SuhadiI have finally reached another significant milestone in life & it was absolutely surreal for me that I have made it thus far! Having to juggle between both cyclic shifts & part-time studies were a massive struggle for me in my mid-20's. Nonetheless, all the tears, endurance & sacrifices made during this journey were worthwhile.

Shout out to Sharifah Raihanah & Muhammad Anwar for being awesome study buddies throughout my years of study!

Most importantly, I would like to express my utmost gratitude to my brother & mentor, Asyraf, whom I would not have made it without his guidance & continuous support. 'Finish what you've started' were his words of encouragement that have kept me going till the end.

Lastly, to all fellow graduands: "Never forget that there is nothing you can't accomplish when you believe in yourself." Congratulations to the Class of 2021!

Cheers to your next journey!

Suharti Bte Mohamed Sulaimi

BSc Facilities and Events Management

Suharti Bte Mohamed SulaimiIt was truly a satisfying experience to have graduated (finally!) from university. Five and a half years of sacrifices, perseverance, determination, uncertain...the journey was not easy. It is challenging being a mum trying to juggle a full-time job with a family life. Add studying to the mix, and it's a whole new level of juggling. There were times where I felt tired and overwhelmed and doubted my ability to complete my journey at SUSS. I vividly remember those nights when I tirelessly did research for my assignments only after the kids have gone to sleep.

I would like to sincerely thank all who had been a part of this memorable journey, especially my family. They are a priceless gift, greater than anything that I can imagine. If it weren't for their endless support, tireless encouragement, backing me up during my ups and downs, I would not have claimed this victory as mine. Knowing that I have them to turn to gives me the strength to accomplish it all. I hope my success serves as an inspiration for my children!

To all my fellow graduates of Class 2021, congratulations for having achieved this milestone! Cheers!!!

Tan Jun Zhe

BSc Mathematics

Tan Jun ZheNever talented in academic, graduating was definitely a great weight off my shoulders.

Through this journey, I've come to understand that hard-work beats talent and nothing is too hard to accomplish. I want to thank my parents for all their support and patience, and also allowing me to make my own decisions in life and always believing in my choices. Additionally, I want to thank the best study partner I could ever ask for, a fellow Graduate, Lee Chun How. He has always been so motivating and patient towards me. Without him and his endless patience & guidance, I would have never been able to graduate. I plan to put what I've obtained in school into real life scenario in the public sector & build a career by returning back to the society.
