SUSS has partnered with DBS Foundation to help the best student impact entrepreneurs scale to the region and create even more impact. The Impact Startup Challenge Grand Finale will have its inaugural edition held on 13 October and will see student teams who previously participated in one of the Impact Startup Challenges competing for the DBS Impact Startup Prize.

The Grand Finale will feature businesses built with social impact as a key aspect of their business. Startups will undergo mentorship with our industry experts, and pitch their business to a public audience across ASEAN, China and India.

The DBS Foundation Social Impact Prize will be awarded to the team that demonstrates a clear problem in society that is addressed, and a viable business solution. The prize includes a cash prize of SGD 10,000, SGD 5,000 and SGD 2,000. Selected startups will also be invited to join the DBSF community and network with access to capacity building so as to support your business.

Programme

In this Grand Finale, shortlisted teams undergo 4-sessions of dedicated mentorship to further develop the business idea to ensure that it is viable in the local and regional markets. Our team of mentors are founders of their own startups and have guided several teams to establish successful businesses of their own.

On 13 October, all shortlisted startups will present their final pitch to our judges, investors and potential customers at our demo day. The top 3 prizes will win cash prizes develop and scale their business.*

The startups will pitch to the judges with a 5-minute presentation, followed by a 7-minute Question & Answer segment. They will be rated based on the following criteria:

  • Originality
  • Market opportunity in their chosen sector for their product/service
  • Entrepreneurial potential of the idea
  • Potential of the founders
  • Impact that the startups can make in society

About the Challenge

The Impact Startup Challenge series of courses is an Asia-wide competition for impact-driven business ideas that attracted more than 600 students from ASEAN, China and India who created more than 100 validated startup ideas and launched more than 22 impact businesses.

The course has been developed in partnership with Singapore University of Social Sciences’ regional university partners in 9 cities across 7 countries. Our relationship with the partner universities have allowed us to help student startups gain a foothold in the region.
