The Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) and SIM University will be awarding more than 500 diplomas to its graduands in a joint graduation ceremony on 8 June 2007.
SIM was the first to start offering diploma programmes for executive upgrading since 1973. Today, it offers both full- and part-time diploma programmes which give students and working executives a firm foundation to progress to further degree/ post-graduate courses. For example, SIM’s most popular diploma programme, Diploma in Management Studies, saw close to 50% of its full-time students continuing their education at SIM, by progressing on to degree programmes.
Mr Perry Lim, Director of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education will be the Guest-of-Honour. Professor Cheong Hee Kiat, President of SIM University, will be presiding at the ceremony.
The qualifications to be awarded at the ceremony range from diploma, graduate diplomas and specialist diplomas from ten part-time and full-time programmes. The diploma programmes include business administration, human resource management, marketing, management studies, pre-school education and Chinese-English translation.
All part-time diplomas are awarded by UniSIM, including the DMS. For this graduating cohort, full-time DMS students will receive a diploma awarded by SIM. New students admitted to the DMS programme from January 2007 onwards will receive their diplomas from UniSIM.
You and your photographer/film crew are cordially invited to attend the ceremony on 8 June 2007 at 3.00pm at SIM Headquarters, Clementi Road, Grand Hall (Level 4).
About the Diploma programmes
Since the 1970s, SIM's house-brand programmes have been a mainstay in the history of management development in Singapore. Responding to the urgent need for executive training in modern management, SIM launched the two-year Diploma in Management Studies (DMS) back in 1973. It attracted an overwhelming 500 applicants with only 70 seats available. Today, the DMS has become a well-established programme and remains a well sought after course with both adult and young learners.
Over the years, our full-time diploma programmes have also attracted international students from across Asia, some of whom have achieved good academic results and recipients of our SIM awards for achieving academic excellence. Beginning with just the two-year DMS programme in 1973, SIM and SIM University now have a far broader range of industry-relevant programmes catering to the diverse needs of the new economy.
SIM and UniSIM celebrate the successful completion of their programmes with our graduands. They include Ms Cammy Wong Hong Ki, from Hong Kong who left home to pursue her dream in a foreign land, Mr Azan Alfian Johari Abdullah an ex-school drop-out who carried a Member of Parliament's word of wisdom to achieve his goal and Mr Jonathan James Henley who despite having a bachelors degree decided to embark on a diploma programme to kick start his own business. We also applaud our life-long learners such as Mr Chong Yong Yuen and Mdm Vellermathi d/o Machap who pursued their academic interest and dreams at SIM University.
