On 25 September 2013, SIM University (UniSIM) gained the support of 14 industry partners for its full-time Accountancy programme through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) presentation ceremony held at Sheraton Towers Singapore. The MOUs were signed by Professor Koh Hian Chye, Assistant Provost of UniSIM College and the representatives of the public accounting firms, viz. Baker Tilly TFW LLP, BDO LLP, Deloitte & Touche LLP, DHA+ pac, Ernst & Young Solutions LLP, Foo Kon Tan Grant Thornton LLP, KPMG Services Pte. Ltd, Mazars LLP, Moore Stephens LLP, Nexia TS Public Accounting Corporation, Ng Liew Peng & Co, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, RSM Chio Lim LLP and Y M Kew & Co.
The programme, which will commence in August 2014, is recognised by the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority, and accredited by the Singapore Accountancy Commission (SAC). UniSIM and the public accounting firms – all of which are Accredited Training Organisations with the SAC – recognise the value of co-operation in the area of training of accountants and the development of the profession. With the signing of the MOU, the firms agree to provide work attachment opportunities to the programme students to help them develop professional skills and gain real work experience that complements their classroom learning.
