On 18 January 2014, a team of four students from the Finance programme at SIM University's (UniSIM) School of Business (SBIZ) participated in the annual CFA Institute University Investment Research Challenge – a global competition that promotes best practices in equity research among the next generation of analysts. This year, the Singapore challenge saw five competing teams from James Cook University, National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University and UniSIM.Each team was tasked to make a 10-minute presentation to the panel of judges, followed by a question-and-answer session. Participants were tested on their analytical, valuation, report writing and presentation skills. NUS emerged as the winner of the competition and will proceed to represent Singapore at the Research Challenge Regional to be held in Bangkok in April. The UniSIM team performed well and well-represented the University's spirit of learning. The experience enabled the students to gain real-world experience as research analysts, and provided them with an excellent opportunity to receive valuable hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis and professional ethics. UniSIM has been participating in this event over the past five years.
