Professor Christopher Berndt, President of the American Society of Materials (ASM International), was recently at SIM University (UniSIM) to conduct a Masterclass and workshop on Thermal Spray Theory and Practice. The "Masterclass in Thermal Spray Coatings: Theory and Practice for Engineering Solutions" was held over 2 days, from 29 to 30 July 2014. It provided participants with a thorough grounding in and understanding of thermal spray processes, an understanding of complex scientific concepts in terms of simple physical models, as well as an integration of this knowledge to practical engineering applications and commonly accepted thermal spray practice.Professor Berndt's workshop, "Advances in Thermal Spray Practice", was conducted on 31 July 2014 and covered topics such as market analysis and overview of thermal spray, considerations when purchasing equipment, analysis methods and shop practice. The masterclass and workshop were jointly organised by the Continuing Education and Training (CET) arm of UniSIM and the School of Science and Technology with the support of the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA).
