SUSS and Singapore Shooting Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 8 March 2017 to commemorate a 4-year collaboration designed to mutually benefit both organisations by improving shooters' performance as they prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, enhance psychology students' learning, as well as to strengthen the university’s research capabilities.
The applied research project focuses on psychophysiological profiling of the shooters, establishing individualised optimal ranges for different performance factors such as heart rate variability, emotional states, and brain activity. By identifying the performance factors, shooters can better manage their psychological and physiological reactions to stress and as such, perform better in competitions. The collaboration will also benefit psychology students as they will be involved in the data collection as part of their learning in two psychology courses, taking their learning beyond textbooks and bringing learning to life.
