On 17 February 2017, the School of Human Development and Social Services (HDSS), in partnership with the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN), organised a public talk and dialogue session entitled "Unlocking Opportunities and Creating Innovation in our Social Landscape".
Chaired by Dr Kevin S.Y. Tan, Head of Programme of the Master of Non-Profit Management (MNPM) programme, the event featured three speakers who shared their personal experiences and opinions with an audience on the challenges and rewards of embarking in the Non-Profit Sector. The speakers were Mr Kevin Teo, Managing Director of AVPN; Mr Casper Ng, Head of Social Finance at the Singapore Centre for Social Enterprise (raiSE); and Ms Patsian Low, former Senior Vice President and Head of DBS Foundation.
It was a highly engaging evening with lively participation from the audience during the question and answer session. Key issues raised were the need to view the Non-Profit sector as a dynamic and complex ecosystem; and the possibility of greater collaboration between various Non-Profit organisations to provide more efficient and effective support for respective interest groups. The session ended on a promising note that more similar events will be held at UniSIM to promote the importance of Singapore's Non-Profit sector.
