SIM University Celebrates Convocation 2014

SIM University (UniSIM) started the celebrations of its 2,132 graduands' achievements on 8 October 2014, the first of three consecutive days on which the ceremonies will be held.

Among the graduands this year are the pioneer batches from the Master of Community Leadership and Social Development programme, and the Bachelor programmes in Accountancy, Building and Project Management, Chinese Language Education, Communication with Military Studies, Human Factors and System with Military Studies, Human Resource Management with Military Studies, and Sociology with Military Studies.

The event, themed "Fulfilling Aspirations", kicked off with the first session graced by Mr Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister, Co-ordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs. In his keynote address, DPM Teo told the graduands that the best proof of the quality of education is how each one of them perform in their jobs and that "the aim of getting a degree is to develop professionals and experts in every field who can perform well in rewarding and satisfying jobs, and contribute to society and the economy". With that in mind, he encouraged the graduands to not just be ready for work, but also to give back to society in meaning ways.

According to DPM Teo, local universities must produce graduates who are industry relevant and maintain good standards, even as they create more education pathways for Singaporeans. He cited how UniSIM has been doing it successfully since it was established in 2005, and wished UniSIM well as it continues to play an important role in the higher education landscape, by providing more opportunities for Singaporeans to grow and develop.

Professor Cheong Hee Kiat, President of UniSIM, congratulated all graduands for reaching this summit with their resolve to succeed. He encouraged them to climb other peaks such as achieving career high points and championing a social cause, with the same spirit of adventure experienced and displayed at the University and utilising the habits learnt such as being nimble-minded and learning-on-the-go.

Congratulations to UniSIM's Class of 2014!
