SIM University's (UniSIM) School of Business collaborated with the Hong Kong Logistics Association (HKLA) to hold the first-of-its-kind Hong Kong-Singapore Training Programme in Problem-solving from 14 - 16 June 2013. This exercise saw the participation of 20 students each from UniSIM's Logistics and Supply Chain Management programme and from Hong Kong. The Hong Kong delegation was led by Dr Owen Yue and Ms Elsa Yuen, Secretary General and Vice President (Programme Committee) of HKLA respectively.The teams (comprising two students from each country) and their mentors visited Korchina Logistics (Singapore) Pte Ltd to study its logistics operations and interact with its operations staff in the areas of transport, warehousing/inventory and order processing. The participants then analysed problems and brainstormed for solutions and finally presented their recommendations to a judging panel that included Mr Michael Gnoh, Senior Manager (Business Development) of Korchina. The programme concluded with the presentation of awards to the top three teams and certificates of achievement to all participants.UniSIM student Mr Ang Boon Beng, a member of the winning team which gave a presentation on how to improve order picking efficiency, said: "The training programme gave us a refreshing opportunity to engage the industry and solve real-world problems, as well as interact with our Hong Kong counterparts."
