Every important journey requires careful preparation. For the new freshmen at SIM University (UniSIM), learning took flight at the Student Orientation. Held on a Saturday on 12 January 2013, the Orientation was an opportunity for new students to get essential information for a smooth learning journey ahead for their studies at UniSIM.The itinerary for the day began with a welcome speech from the Deans of the respective Schools. This was followed by a workshop on Blackboard, the e-platform for access to learning and submission of their assignments. Thereafter, the students attended their respective Head of Programme briefing, which provided students with information critical to their academic success. The atrium at SIM HQ was transformed into a café transit lounge for new students to enjoy an afternoon of "Coffee Tea-a-Tete". It was an excellent opportunity for freshmen to meet their fellow course-mates, seniors and members of the University’s Management and Faculty. Freshmen checked-in at the 4 booths at the Atrium (Library Resources, “Check-in” Survival Guide, “Are you e-ready?” and “Teaching and Learning Centre”) where they were able to have hands-on experience on the network of resources that they will be tapping on in their course of study. The Orientation concluded with some fun photo shots among new friends and the campus tour. The students went home with goodie bags and key information, all ready for their new academic semester.Once again, we welcome our freshmen to UniSIM and wish you all the best in your studies!
