UniSIM joins our nation to mourn the loss of Mr S R Nathan, the former President of Singapore, who passed away peacefully on 22 August 2016 aged 92. Mr Nathan served as Singapore's sixth President from 1999 to 2011. Our deepest condolences to Mr Nathan's family; we pray for strength and comfort for his family members. Mr Nathan was deeply respected and will be remembered for the many achievements and his sacrificial giving of himself for our country. He was, and remains, an inspiration to all of us for his distinguished achievements as a civil servant, ambassador, statesman and our President. In the words of Professor Cham Tao Soon, former Chairman of UniSIM: "He was warm and easily approachable. Humble and willing to help. He was loved by all Singaporeans."At UniSIM, we have been especially blessed to have had Mr Nathan as our Patron from 2006 to 2011 where he advocated strong support for, and championed, our University's mission to equip learners through lifelong education to serve society. He gave inspiration through his own journey of learning and personal advancement, graduating with a Diploma in Social Work in 1954 and commencing his career as a medical social worker before scaling the civil service career ladder. We will dearly miss him. Professor Cheong Hee KiatPresident, SIM University
