UniSIM Announces New Endowment Fund At "Wings" Sculpture Inauguration Ceremony

On 28 March 2016, distinguished guests and staff of SIM University (UniSIM) gathered at the entrance of its Tay Eng Soon Library for the inauguration of the "Wings" sculpture, which was donated by famed sculptor Mr Yeo Chee Kiong; and Mr Anthony Teo, co-founder of Harvard Singapore Foundation and a UniSIM adjunct professor.

The unveiling of the sculpture by Professor Cheong Hee Kiat, President of UniSIM, revealed a silvery icon of soaring wings which blends with the silver steel global, mounted on a black marble pedestal. This meaningful gift to UniSIM reflects the University's commitment to the social sector, community and leadership, and aims to inspire all to engage in lifelong learning and soar towards success.

At the ceremony, Professor Cheong also announced the setting up of the "Wings Scholarship and Award Endowment Fund", which was made possible with the generous donation from the estate of the late Ms Wong Lan Eng, as executed by Ms Madeleine Lee and Mr Francis Ng. Ms Wong had contributed much to Singapore's education sector during her lifetime, not just in the form of donations, but also in her service as a teacher.

The purpose of this endowment fund is to advance higher education in the disciplines mounted through UniSIM's School of Human Development and Social Services (HDSS), including social work, early childhood education, human resource management, gerontology and non-profit management. This will be accomplished through the support of deserving undergraduate and graduate programme students in the form of non-bonded study sponsorships and awards.
