H2013_16Oct2_p1

Convocation 2013 which was held over 3 days, from 16 to 18 October saw 1980 graduates receiving their coveted degrees from the Chancellor during the ceremony, witnessed by their loved ones. Among those present are the pioneer batches of graduates from the Master of Gerontology, Master of Human Capital Management, Bachelor of Early Childhood Education with Management, Bachelor of Science in Facilities and Events Management, Bachelor of Science in Info-Comm Technology with Military Studies, Bachelor of Science in Logistics with Military Studies and Bachelor of Science in Psychology with Military Studies.

The theme for this year's convocation "Making Waves" was chosen to remind the graduates to forge ahead with confidence and passion to "influence, impact and inspire" beyond the epicenter of SIM University. Graduates were congratulated for their sheer conviction and tenacity, as they rode the challenges of managing part time studies with full time jobs, braving the turbulent waters of meeting deadlines and preparing for examinations which had finally created waves of success.

At the grand hall, it was an inspiring atmosphere as we watched video highlights of graduates reflecting their juggle between having a full time job and part time studies and sharing their thoughts and aspirations on life, after graduation.

The Guest Speakers for each of the five sessions also shared gems of wisdom with the graduates. For the Opening session on 16 October morning, the ceremony began with UniSIM President's Address, followed by the speech by the Guest Of Honour, Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Education who promised that "The Government will continue to ensure that Singaporeans have such opportunities to learn and re-learn, to allow you to acquire new skills and new knowledge, in order to succeed at each person's own quest for job and life satisfaction and to make your own special contribution to society." Mr Heng also announced the launch of new full time applied degree programmes in 2014 as well as the establishment of the third Law School in SIM University. These significant announcements added to the celebratory atmosphere.

At the end of the ceremony, the graduates proceeded to the atrium for a tea reception and each brought home a graduation bear as a memento. They also took many snapshots of memorable moments in their graduation gown with family members and friends.

Congratulations and wishing you continued success, Class of 2013!
