UniSIM Part-time Programmes Student Orientation (Jul 2015)

H2015_11Jul_p

The theme for July 2015 Student Orientation was "Building Success", portrayed by Lego blocks. Lego, which originated from the Danish word "Leg Godt" means "I study" or "I put together", in Latin. The toy blocks signifies building blocks of success and can be applied to the freshmen's learning journey at SIM University and how they would attain a sound education at the university, which is a pivotal building block to becoming an accomplished learner.

About 850 students were warmly welcomed by their School Deans; followed by briefing sessions with their respective Head of Programmes, who spoke to them about the programme's learning objectives and prepared them for their upcoming learning journey with UniSIM. Student Support staff led the lively Campus Tours which were arranged to orientate the freshmen around the University campus.

The University also welcomed a group of students who have decided to embark on their journeys towards lifelong learning by enrolling in CET modular courses. These courses offered through the four schools of the university: Arts and Social Sciences, Business, Human Development and Social Services, and Science and Technology, are developed for direct industry relevance.

One of the highlights was the tête-à-tête session at the Atrium, where freshmen had the opportunity to mingle with the University's management, orientation ambassadors and their fellow course-mates. The Atrium was also lined up with informative and interactive booths such as the 'Learning Services' booth to familiarise students with MyUniSIM (Blackboard) - the learning management system for students, as well as student learning support services provided by Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC). There was also the 'Building Blocks' booth which provided an opportunity for students to log in to the Student Portal and clarify any doubts with Student Support staff. Library and Counselling booths were also there to support the students for their new journey.

The Atrium was abuzz with lively energy, chats and laughter between faculty and students which spoke of the new friendships forged over the tête-à-tête session; friends who will be journeying together at UniSIM.
