The Student Orientation held on 14th January 2017 came with the Scrabble theme highlighting the engagement between two or more parties leveraging on the contribution of one another, and a challenge to oneself to achieve the best results through one's prowess. Centered around UniSIM's education philosophy of the 3 H's of "Head", "Heart" and "Habit", the day saw about 700 freshmen who were eager to learn.
The group of new students started the day early with a breakfast pack and campus tour where they were introduced to some facilities available. They then proceeded to the welcome addresses and programme briefings by their respective School Deans and Heads of Programme, followed by a delicious buffet lunch. Students were encouraged to download the Orientation mobile application where they could view the day's schedule, receive live updates throughout the day, redeem free gifts and provide feedback conveniently through their smartphones.
Exciting booths were set up at the Atrium where students were able to familiarise themselves with the various useful tools for their studies in UniSIM. These include the School of Law and Teaching & Learning Centre who joined us for the first time. One of the highlights of the day were the Virtual Reality (VR) Experience booth by VizioFly, where students got to experience a VR Orientation tour around the campus. Students were amazed at how immersive the experience was. They were also treated to a delightful cup of gourmet coffee or tea and swiss rolls as they mingled with UniSIM academic and administrative staff, student ambassadors and their fellow course-mates.
The day ended with an important E-briefing for students to learn how to navigate the various e-platforms including Library, Canvas, Student Portal and Teaching and Learning Centre to assist them as they begin their learning journey at UniSIM.
