On 19 March 2013, SIM University (UniSIM) and People's Association (PA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will provide five grassroots leaders the opportunity to further their education. This agreement, which will see UniSIM sponsor up to 80% of the total course fees of any of its part-time undergraduate programmes, aims to better equip grassroots leaders with the necessary leadership skills to build an inclusive and cohesive society. Mr Yam Ah Mee, Chief Executive Director of PA, shared: "PA is very pleased to partner UniSIM. UniSIM's sponsorship of their bachelor degree programmes for grassroots leaders not only recognises their hard work and dedication to the community but more importantly, provides opportunities for them to continually improve their knowledge and skills in building greater social capital in the community."Professor Cheong Hee Kiat, President of UniSIM, added: "Our society is becoming more complex and diverse. We need a new breed of community leaders who not only have effective leadership skills, but possess broad-based knowledge to tackle manifold issues. UniSIM is privileged to partner PA to contribute towards this national agenda by providing wider access to continuous education and training (CET) for our community leaders."This close partnership builds on an earlier MOU signed between the two institutions in 2012 to launch Singapore's first Master of Community Leadership and Social Development programme.
