UniSIM Receives The Singapore Health Age-Friendly Award 2014

On 25 November 2014, SIM University (UniSIM) was presented with the Singapore Health Age-Friendly Award 2014 by Professor Ivy Ng, Group Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Health Services (SingHealth). UniSIM was given this award in recognition of its participation in and showcase of age-friendly projects at the Singapore Health Age-Friendly Week exhibition-cum-award ceremony held at the Singapore National Heart Centre.

SingHealth has been organising the Singapore Health Age-Friendly Week since 2012 to raise awareness among caregivers on how to communicate with and care for the elderly. The 2014 event saw the attendance of close to 150 participants who shared initiatives to meet the unique needs of older patients in a friendly and safe environment. Students and alumni from UniSIM's Master of Gerontology (MGER) programme displayed posters on the topics of "Hoarding Behaviour among Seniors", "Support Group for Older Women Caregivers with Cancer" and "Strategies for Overcoming Manpower Challenges in the Intermediate and Long-term Care Sector".

Associate Professor Kalyani Mehta, Head of the MGER programme, received the award, together with nine of the total 17 participating MGER students and alumni.
