Five SIM University (UniSIM) students will be representing Singapore at the upcoming 28th South East Asian (SEA) Games, held across multiple local sporting venues from June 5 - 16.
Psychology students Nicole Tan Ling Chiao and Javier Poon Long, Psychology with Sociology student Hayden Ong, Facilities and Events Management student Loh Peixuan, and Marketing student Grace Seet Ching Yi are part of the Singapore contingent comprising 749 athletes who will be participating in 36 sports.
At the 2015 Singapore SEA Games, Javier and Grace will represent the country in the Men's Volleyball and Women's Volleyball events respectively. Paddlers Hayden and Peixuan will take part in the Women's Traditional Boat Race 12-Crew, 200m and 500m events, with Peixuan also racing in the 6-Crew, 200m and 500m events. Nicole will display her shooting skills in the Women's 10m Air Pistol Individual and Team, and Women's 25m Pistol Individual and Team events. She made history at the 2013 Myanmar SEA Games when she clinched Singapore's first gold medal for shooting in the 25m Pistol Individual event. Nicole was also part of the team that won the silver medal in the 25m Pistol Team event at the 2013 Games.
Singapore had previously hosted this biennial event in 1973, 1983 and 1993. It is especially significant this year as the Games is held in conjunction with Singapore's 50th anniversary celebrations. Themed "Celebrate the Extraordinary", the 28th SEA Games will celebrate ordinary people chasing their extraordinary dreams and the triumph of the human spirit, not just in sports, but also in their daily lives.
We, at UniSIM, wish Javier, Grace, Hayden, Peixuan and Nicole all the very best at the 28th SEA Games, and we look forward to watching them in action then as they fight for home turf glory.
