UniSIM Supports Continuing Education For SAF Personnel

Officers from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) who participated in SIM University's (UniSIM) Logistics Management Programme (LMP) and successfully completed the Unit Logistics Officers' Course and Advanced Logistics Officers' Course were honoured at the fourth LMP certificate presentation ceremony on 26 May 2015.

The ceremony was attended by UniSIM representatives including Associate Professor Philip Cheang, Dean of the School of Science and Technology; Associate Professor Teng Su Ching, Director of the Centre for Continuing and Professional Education; Dr Calvin Chan, Vice Dean of the School of Business (SBIZ); and other faculty.

The LMP is the result of a memorandum of understanding signed between SAF and UniSIM in 2009 to support continuing education for SAF personnel. Courses for LMP are drawn from SBIZ's programmes and earn credits towards UniSIM's Bachelor of Science in Logistics and Supply Chain Management programme – a further incentive for the personnel to pursue continual lifelong learning.

In his speech, Associate Professor Cheang emphasised the importance of lifelong learning and exhorted the officers to give their best in upgrading themselves and be of even greater service to the nation. An embodiment of this lifelong learning is special guest at the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Sng Hock Lin, who is currently pursuing UniSIM's Master of Gerontology programme – his second master's degree. He shared with the servicemen the value of lifelong learning and encouraged all of them to pursue higher education.
