As part of World Book Day cum Literature Under the April Sky – an initiative that aims to promote a love for reading in Singapore, Chinese Language and Literature programme representatives from SIM University's (UniSIM) School of Arts and Social Sciences and the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning co-hosted a two-hour seminar with award-winning Malaysian Chinese writer Ms Li Zishu (黎紫书) on 17 April 2015.In this engaging talk emceed by UniSIM Chinese programme associate Dr Ow Ching Tee, participants had the opportunity to learn about the state of Chinese literature in Malaysia, and the place of Malaysian Chinese literature in the region. Ms Li also shared candidly her personal experience as a writer, from writing her first novel which earned her the 2012 Fang Xiu Literature Award (方修文学奖), to her plans for the future.By the end of the session, the participants not only gained greater insights into the workings of an award-winning writer's mind, but also a better understanding of what the creative writing industry in Malaysia and the region is like.
