The Public Safety and Security Programme team is pleased to co-organise this workshop with Protective Intelligence Network at Singapore University of Social Sciences. This course offers a unique opportunity for professionals to enhance their expertise in forensic sciences, forensic pathology, and gender-based violence interventions. Suited for forensic police officers, prison staff, police investigators, forensic psychologists, and select students, it aims to strengthen understanding of medico-legal procedures and forensic practice. Participants will gain hands-on experience through interactive sessions, case studies, and practical demonstrations, providing insights into otherwise hard-to-access forensic methodologies.

About the Facilitators
![]() Dr. Martina Focardi graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Florence, Italy, earning a perfect score of 110/110. In 2005, she specialized in Forensic Medicine, achieving a score of 70/70 with distinction. During her specialization, Dr. Martina Focardi attended several key courses:
In 2017, Dr. Focardi achieved the national scientific qualification for 2nd Level Professor. She served as a Forensic Pathologist at the University Hospital of Careggi from 2012 to 2019 and currently holds the position of Acting Director of the Forensic Medicine Unit and Head of Legal Medicine at the same hospital. Dr. Focardi provides specialized consultancy for various Italian courts and engages in teaching forensic medicine at university-level courses and health personnel training schools. She also lectures at numerous II Level Masters on topics such as forensic pathology, post-mortem identification, and age assessment. Since 2004, Dr. Focardi has presented over 80 reports on forensic medicine at conferences and published over 80 scientific papers. Dr. Focardi is an esteemed member of Protective Intelligence Network Advisory Board in Singapore. |
![]() Associate Professor Razwana Begum is the Head of the Public Safety and Security Programme at the Singapore University of Social Sciences. She holds a PhD in Business Ethics and Restorative Justice from Monash University, along with degrees in law, criminology, counselling and social work. Prior to joining the university, she spent 18 years working as a Probation Officer with the Ministry of Social and Family Development. Beyond academia, Razwana is the President of the Singapore Muslim Women's Association (PPIS), Adjunct Principal Scientist with The Centre for Advanced Technologies in Online Safety (CATOS), and a member of School Advisory and Fostering Committee. Previously, she served at Youth Court as one of the Panel of Advisors. From 2022-2025, she was Nominated Member of the 14th Parliament of Singapore, raising issues on public safety and security, equity in education, support for children and young people, and women empowerment. An expert in criminology, she actively engages with the media and speaks at national and international forums. Her research interest includes children, young people and families and the intersection between social justice and rule breaking behaviour. |
![]() Angelo Bani joined the Italian National Police in 1986 as a Police Constable and had moved up the ranks to become a Police Senior Chief Inspector, working in Criminal Investigation Department within Homicide and Violent Crime units and later at the Central Directorate of Criminal Police in Rome, seconded to the INTERPOL, International Criminal Police Organisation as Intelligence Officer. He was Manager of the INTERPOL Counter Terrorism Fusion Task Force within the Public Safety and Terrorism sub directorate, dealing with terrorism and counter terrorism information in the Asian-Pacific region. (FTF project Pacific). His international experience with INTERPOL includes investigative missions in India, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Cambodia, Laos, Timor Leste, Thailand, Colombia and Salvador. Currently, Mr. Bani is the Director of Protective Intelligence Network in Singapore and security consultant for major international organizations in Switzerland. Mr. Bani has a technical diploma in Hotel Management and completed his studies at the Italian National Police School and the Italian National Police Academy. He owns a certificate on Terrorism Studies from Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence, the University of St. Andrews, UK and a certified course on Political Philosophy at Oxford University, UK. He obtained an MSc on International Criminal Justice from University of Portsmouth, UK and a second Masters in Strategic Studies at RSIS, at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He is currently studying a Post.Grad course in International Security at Harvard University. |
